Hi lacquered lovelies! Happy Friday! It's been a crazy week so I'm glad that it's over - I had an exam Tuesday morning and failed a bit at scheduling my time (I had another one the Saturday morning before) so I ended up staying up late studying. I got two hours of sleep between Monday and Tuesday - probably not the best idea, but I think it was worth it, since my exam went well - I hope!
Today I have a mani for you that involved a lot of steps. I thought it was well worth the end result though, so I didn't mind at all! I've been seeing layering manis everywhere with the OPI jellies sorbets, so I decided to try it. I have Y'all Come Back Ya Hear? but knew that it wasn't quite the orange colour I wanted, so I decided to start out with an orange base colour.
Sorry about the lighting with these first couple of pictures - it was night while I was working on this but I wanted to take pictures as I went through the process!
I started out with two coats of Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear blah blah blah in Mandarin. It's a really nice - well, mandarin orange, with lovely shimmer. Sorry about the bubbling on my ring finger, I would have fixed it but I knew I was going to keep layering!
I was looking through my stash and decided to use this - Color Craze Goddess. It looks so fun!
I added two coats over Mandarin.
Then I added one coat of OPI Y'all Come Back Ya Hear? over top. I wanted the glitter to still be visible but have a sort of suspended look to it. Sorry about the dry hands in these pictures, I took them while I was at work and my job is torture for my hands!
Close up to show the effect. I like that it's a bit more subtle but I think layering the jelly sorbet over top added a lot of interest. To me, at least!
On one nail, I decided to try two coats. This is what it looked like. I like this too, but I think I would have done two coats over top if I hadn't used a different base colour and had just used YCYA? and Goddess.
I really liked this! As you guys know, I'm obsessing about orange lately (did you know that after I posted Fresh Squeezed I realized that there wasn't even an orange tag before that? Crazy!) and it's a bunch of things I like rolled into one mani - orange, glitter and jellies!
A lady at my work commented on my nails when I wore this... sort of. She's older, and she just looked at them and then said, "Oh, you're wearing orange nail polish?" so I said yeah (because I'm socially awkward and thought it was pretty obvious that I was) and she said, "That's..... interesting." There was the longest pause ever in between each word too, like that bitchy girl pause that you probably heard in high school? Cow!
That's it for me today! What do you lovelies think? Do you like orange? Are you getting sick of me showing it? Have you tried layering glitters underneath any jellies? Do you like the OPI "sorbets"?
Thanks for reading! I hope to talk to some of you in the comments. Have a lovely Friday!
LOVE! I need that orange.
ReplyDeleteThis looks very pretty! I also tried this glitter-jelly-layering-thing and loved it. I think I need to try with some other glitter, it was so nice look imo.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, this is really pretty! Even though it is orange, that's not really my color. But I like the effect of layering a jelly over glitter!
ReplyDeleteThis looks really neat! I do like orange, but I don't have many oranges. I should get more. Your nails look really good!
ReplyDeleteLove it! You have gotten me into orange!
ReplyDeleteLove that glitter polish its so cute. I like wearing orange, I have Barry M tangerine and its so multi dimensional its awesome :)
ReplyDeleteThe old ladys just jealous she can't get away with wearing orange!
I am asking myself why do I not have that sally hansen orange? I wonder if its close to sally hansen crushed. I've been wearing orange all week. lol It has grown on me. :) I like what you did.
ReplyDeleteYou are converting me 1 orange at a time! I need to try this look with my OPI sorbet!
ReplyDeleteI'm not big on orange polish, but this is super pretty. Looks amazing on you!
ReplyDeleteBoy, I would have fired right back at the snobby co-worker 'what do you mean, interesting? If you like it, here, let me polish your nails with it. Yes! I have it right here' slosh, slop, swipe. ;)
ReplyDeleteForget her, it's beautiful and FUN!! (I hope by older, she wasn't my age. =O Hopefully, I'm more open-minded) <3
Glitter = love!
ReplyDeletePsh, that lady just doesn't know what she's missing!
