Hello lacquered lovelies! Happy Monday! It's a huge sale day at my work today... really not looking forward to it at all. I can't wait to go on the cruise, we leave Sunday!
I was looking through pictures and decided to do a combination of a couple of things I've got lying around. Two frankens I hated and naked nails. Weirdly, I get a lot of requests about what my nails look like unpolished... uhh? It's not pretty... I'd like to find something for the stains but hey, it's the price I pay. Any recommendations?
This first one was made using a bunch of stuff. The glitter is Wet 'n' Wild Party of Five Glitters and Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear blah blah in Strobe Light or something? I can't find the bottle. It's that shimmery bit, anyway. I swatched it and then thought it would look better more opaque, hence why my middle finger looks different. This one is totally crap. Thick, difficult to work with, difficult to clean up (hence my horrible lines) and not at all what I had in mind.
The only nice thing about it, for me, is the shimmer. That's the Sally Hansen stuff poking through. I think it's pretty.
Aaand another fail. This one was made using OPI Pamplona Purple and some gold glitter. Look at the bottom of the bottle and you'll see why it's a fail.
Okay and WARNING: STAINED NAILS AHEAD. They're not as bad as they were but yeah, still not nice. This was about a week and a half ago...? The bottle I'm holding is an American Classics treatment called Growth Spurt - I loooove this stuff. The only thing I like about my naked nails is that I think I have decent nail lines lol. That's part of why I don't mind VNL when I wear jellies, etc. The thing that bugs me most is all the problems my middle finger gives me - all of my other fingernails grow relatively square, but my middle fingernail does whatever it wants. Irritatiiiiing. I've fixed the issue since (sort of), but I apologize.
That's it from me today, icky and gross! Have you guys had any franken fails recently? What do you use to keep your nails unstained? Are your nails stained? Are they gross like mine? Do you ever have naked nails? I went out in public ONCE recently with bare nails and I kept hiding my hands because I felt embarrassed. Eww!
Thanks for reading! Have a beautiful day!

Yeah. All that hex glitter and it didn't translate onto the nail at all. BAH. So I tried layering some of the hex glitter on there and then adding another coat of the franken.
Umm... yeah. Still not keen, though it does look better with the hex glitter, I think... I dunno. I think the problem is that I hate the base colour LOL. It looks really... granny-ish to me.

So yeah. I wanted to get the naked nails out of the way and thought maybe starting off with some laughably bad frankens would help ease the pain of seeing my stained nails. :(

Hahaha I loved your questions at the end. My nails are pretty stained now...and thinking about a few months ago when I didn't wear polish all the time and how nice they were then kind of makes me sad! Until I look at them polished pretty...
ReplyDeleteBut no, your nails aren't that bad...my naked nails are much worse--at least your cuticles look great! I get real thick skin around the edges of my nails that won't go away with any sort of cream I've tried...and my middle finger nail grows completely flat and wonky! Yuck.
Your frankens aren't that big of a fail, either...I mean...the hex glitter not coming out sucks, but the color is pretty, and I actually kind of like the first one!
<3
My naked nails look a lot like yours, stained the same way. All my nail lines are wacky though and each nail grows a different way. I NEVER go out with naked nails. NEVER, haha!
ReplyDeletePS, I like the first franken!
I like them both - the blue, especially! I don't think they're fails at all. LOVE that blue.
ReplyDeleteAww those fails are still great colours though! And that 'granny' looking one? I think its gorgeous =]
ReplyDeleteAnd your nails are great! They look very healthy =]
I actually really like that first franken, but boo for crappy formulas :( I keep wanting to franken, but somehow I always lose my nerve. I wouldn't even know where to start lol. Also, your nails aren't bad! You haven't seen mine. They're currently somewhere between egg yolk and orange juice in colour. GROSS. Sheer polish/naked nails are an absolute no-no for me.
ReplyDeleteThe idea was good but sometimes frankens just don't wanna roll with your thoughts and come out blah. I hate it when that happens. On the pictures the first one doesn't look that bad though!
ReplyDeleteYour nails aren't stained as much as mine are now.. Zoya Edyta is pretty but a bish to get off!
funny enough i have the exact same problem with my middle fingers.. they grow all funky on the sides :S
ReplyDeleteyour unpolished nails don't look too bad though i love the shape!
LMAO franken fails. Mine are fails before I even attempt them...
ReplyDeleteand my nails are stainedddddd so bad. It's like the bottom 3rd of my nails, from the free edge up are perma-stained..you think it would grow out or something.
ANDD I keep wearing blues/greens..which probably don't help the equation
Your nails look very nice! Mine are just as stained, so I'm ignoring that part lol.
ReplyDeleteI'd been using Orly Bonder as a basecoat for a long time, but switched to Sally Hansen Hard as Wraps a couple of months ago. Now that my nails have grown out, I can see Bonder turned them yellow. A few other blogger have reported the same. :( I'm gonna try soaking my nails in denture cleaner.
ReplyDeleteThat first franken looks like what I had hoped DL Glitter in the Air would look like on the nail. Unfortunate about the crappy application because it looks great!
Love the frankens! Especially the blue one, it reminds me of Deborah Lippman Glitter In The Air(: GORGEOUS
ReplyDeletewow! i made a franken that is scarily similar to the blue one! i was going for a glitter in the air look... i liked it at first but when it was on.. it just wasnt as pigmented as i had hoped!
ReplyDeleteI use 2 base coats, a strengthener/hardener and then Essie Beam Up on top of it, I haven't really had a problem with staining since starting to use the Beam Up.
ReplyDeleteTo get rid of the yellowing you might want to try mixing 2 tablespoons of baking soda with 1 tablespoon of lemon juice, mix it into a paste and then rub it on your nails real good, getting underneath also, it helps whiten and also helps soften cuticles. Hope that helps.
The first one reminds me a lot of DL GITA but it stands on it's own still.
ReplyDeleteYou have pretty nails! Mine are all short and stuff. :( I whiten them once in a while with the Orly Cuticle Remover. It whitens nails too.
