I'm back: swatch spam!

Hello lacquered lovelies! Happy Friday, woooo! I'm sorry for my prolonged absence. I moved home almost two weeks ago and I've been trying to get back into the swing of things. I also started work again (same place, just transferred to a different store)... so far it seems okay but I'm worried I might end up in the same situation I was in at the other store I worked at. Fingers crossed that it doesn't happen again/that I'll be able to find something else!

So today I've got some random swatches for you. These are things that I've had sitting in my "post" folder for ages and I don't know why I haven't posted them. Some are probably still drafts so I should probably go through and find those haha. Anyway, enjoy!

Holy COW there were way more photos than I expected. If you want to see holos, glitters and a multichrome comparison involving Clarins 230, read below the jump!

First up is Hits Apolo. Three coats. A really nice rich blue holo. I can't get enough of colours like this lately. It's almost regal looking <3 I had a bit of bubbling, sorry! I wasn't patient enough between coats. I didn't need an aqua base for this and I didn't use topcoat. :)

Next up is Hits Ares. Perfect cherry red holo! <3 This was three coats. It was a bit sheer but it's so squishy and perfect looking. No basecoat or topcoat.

Hits Demeter. Three coats. This is interesting... we don't see orange holos that often and this one seems almost muted. I'd love to see more orange holos, you guys know how much I love orange haha. Again, super squishy! Not as holo as most of the other polishes in this collection but it's still gorgeous. :)

Quick comparison - Girly Bits Shift Happens (index) vs Clarins 230 (middle finger) vs Max Factor Fantasy Fire (ring) vs some awful smelling dollar store polish I found in my stash haha. The main difference is the coverage - this was two coats of each over two coats of Revlon Royal. 230 obviously has the best coverage and the strongest shift, but I think both the Max Factor and the Girly Bits make for a nice substitute. For the amount you'd probably save going with them over 230, I'm sure one or two more coats wouldn't hurt!

I almost didn't show the next two but I've got pictures so...

Nerd Lacquer Hyperspace Bypass. Darker, almost mustard-y yellow base with large gold hexes, smaller black hexes and small gold (and silver?) pieces. This polish is so awesome. It makes me so so sad that Amanda isn't making polishes anymore. Nerd Lacquer kind of just vanished. I really hope Amanda and her family are okay. I didn't use any topcoat with this one because... well, because I like the gritty feel haha. I've worn this one multiple times and it's pretty thirsty, though. Probably would benefit from a coat of Gelous.

Nerd Lacquer Warrior Ethos. Three coats for maximum depth. Blood red base with large black and silver hexes and smaller silver and black hexes. You guys know how hard I love black glitter. It's an obsession. Every time I'm looking at glitters to layer over an older manicure to freshen it up I have to force myself to put the black glitter down. Warrior Ethos is a polish I always reach for when I've shortened my nails a lot, I just love how red looks on shorter nails. Sorry if you think they're too short, I remember this filing being a little painful haha :( I did use topcoat with this one.

Phew! So many pictures haha. I need to keep on top of things, I get so lazy sometimes :( I forgot my camera when I moved but my bff is sending it to me... I've got tons of pictures on there that I can't wait to share with you guys, plus swatches of some awesome upcoming indies to share once I've finished wearing them all! I'm really excited about one in particular.... but I'll tell you which one when I post it hehe!

What do you guys think? What have you been wearing lately? Have you found yourself gravitating toward a particular colour? I'm back on the green and blue wagon like crazy lately... nudes too! And I can't seem to get enough glitter... have any of you tried using that white glue as a substitute for the Essence peel off base coat? I'm dying to try it out, I'd wear glitters more (even more than I already do!) if there was a way that I could wear them without making my cuticles sob when I remove them haha.

Thanks for reading! Have a beautiful day!

    1. I wish I knew, sweetie :( Amanda kind of just dropped off the planet - Katie of Harlow & Co. stopped hearing from her etc, and as far as I know nobody has publicly said what's happened to her since. I just hope she's okay - I miss her polishes, maybe she'll come back to us one day!

    1. Hi Mariska! Which Maybelliene polish do you think is a dupe for 230? I'd love to track that one down! Thanks for commenting! <3

    1. Thank you! <3 It feels good to be easing back onto the blogging train haha. I hope the comparison was helpful for you - I know not everyone is crazy and willing to spend as much on 230 as some of us have!

  5. I'm so hoping my MIL brings back those HITS holos for me when she returns from Brazil. As for the Clarins, I'll just have to keep hoping.

    1. Ooh I hope she brings them back for you, fingers crossed! They aren't 230 but you can't beat gorgeous holos, I love how squishy these ones are too! Thank you for commenting! <3

  6. Welcome back! You were missed :)

I actually HAVE tried using Elmer's School Glue instead of Essence peel off base coat, and it works (one you get a hang of the peeling thing)!. If you thin it out with a little water it's workable. Plus, its pretty decent as a basecoat as far as wear time is concerned and at 50 cents a bottle, you can't really beat that.

    1. Hi Becca! Thank you for your sweet and helpful comment :) I think I'll try out the glue soon, I've got lots of new indie glitters to try and my poor cuticles are hating me right now and I've only gotten through three!

Also - is my openID commenting option not working for you? :( I don't usually publish anonymous comments but I think you've left me a few before and you're always sweet - I'd just love to have a name for you! :)

    1. I'm glad you enjoyed seeing a couple of my Nerd Lacquers - I was hesitant about posting them since they aren't available anymore unless one is willing to pay crazy prices for them, but they're too pretty to hide, I think! Hyperspace Bypass is gorgeous, isn't it? Amanda created some really beautiful polishes :)

  8. Welcome Back!!!! You were missed. I haven't tried the Elmer's glue base coat yet but I will soon. Hopefully it comes out well. Anyone have any recommendations on what type of brush to use?

    1. Thank you love! <333 I think I'm going to put the glue into an empty polish bottle, then add a bit of water to thin it out slightly. I've read that a few people have tried that with good results so I'm excited to try it out! I don't think I could polish with anything but a polish brush - my brain would obsess over it until I went crazy, most likely!
