Lac Attack Mattes & Music swatches!

Hello lacquered lovelies! Happy Tuesday! I hope you've all had a good start to your week. I apologise for my prolonged silence again - I don't mean to keep vanishing like that but my real life is making it hard for me to keep up with my polish life :( I think I've got a solution though - I wasn't swatching because I was never off on days that it was sunny/had a bunch of things to do on my days off, so I started playing with the white balance on my camera to figure out a lighting situation and I think I've got it. It's not 100% where I'd like it to be, but I'll let you guys know which pictures aren't in sunlight and maybe you can tell me what you think?

So today I've got some polishes from Lac Attack's Mattes & Music collection. Omg. I'm a huge music snob geek and I love matte glitter so hard it's an illness, so this is basically a perfect collection for me. I love it. Anastasia came up with some really beautiful polishes, so let's get started with the sharing, yes? Okayyyy everything is going under a cut again because I don't know how to use less photos.

All of the swatches have topcoat - the first swatch is with Seche Vite, all of the rest are with Gelous + China Glaze Fast Forward.

First up is Vegas Skies. It's got matte purple/fuschia, lime green and orange glitter. My bottle of this was pretty thick at first, I ended up thinning it to get it to the consistency I wanted it at, but I thin almost all of my indies so I didn't mind too much. This is two coats of Vegas Skies over two coats of Sephora by OPI XOX Betsey (I love this nude so hard).

I just wanted to say - this polish combination did NOT play nicely with my topcoat. You can see some bubbling and I got these weird lines along the edges of my nails - I would say maybe it was too much polish but six coats (including base and topcoat of course) is really nothing for me... I recently started trying to use Seche Vite again and I find that 90% of my manicures using it have at least a couple of bubbles. I think it's just not for me... Also, after this first swatch the rest of my photos are in artificial lighting. What do you guys think?

Next up is Butterfly Kisses. This one is cute. Matte pink glitter with holographic silver butterflies. I LOVE SHAPED GLITTER. This is two coats of Butterfly Kisses over two coats of OPI Red Lights Ahead... Where?. The butterflies weren't the easiest to work with - they don't flow out like a glitter does, you definitely have to do some fishing. Worth it though, I think this is so adorable.

Next up is Crazy Girl. Crazy Girl has a mixture of matte yellow, orange, green, yellow, pink, aqua... it's a very colourful glitter! This is two sort of coats of it over two coats of China Glaze Sea Spray - I say sort of because it was more dabbing than a polishing motion. Sadly, I had issues with application with this one. The glitter didn't seem to want to go on evenly to my nail - it kind of just went wherever it wanted, as you can see on my ring finger haha. That said, I still like this one! I might try thinning my bottle a bit more to see if that helps.

Bad Moon Rising. This is matte aqua/teal, green and pink glitter in varying sizes. I wonder if you'll be able to see this in the macro shot but I noticed that the green has a bit of a pattern/texture on it? I thought it was cool. I found it very distracting. This is two coats of Bad Moon Rising over one coat of OPI Yoga-ta Get this Blue - I know that the OPI is a done to death colour but I really do love that polish.

And the last one I've got for you today is Yankee Doodle. White bar glitter, red hex glitter and blue stars! It also has a ton of very fine holographic glitter. THIS IS MY FIRST BAR GLITTER EVER. I hate bar glitter. It looks like a disease. I never wear it because it makes me think of mold and just unpleasant things. Illness. But Anastasia and I agreed that I should try it before I keep hating it, so here I am. This is two coats of Yankee Doodle over three coats of OPI Give Me Moor!. The second picture was blurry to show the holographic glitter, the third is with flash.

I... I don't hate this. I think I like it more because it's combined with things I like (I love star glitter and I love red and holographic glitter), so it's not so terrifying. I don't think I'm ready for a bar glitter-only polish (I doubt I ever will be), but my love Jen said that the bar glitter made her think of shooting stars... it definitely does look a galaxy to me now!

Whew! What do you guys think? I'm loving these, I can't wait to come up with more combinations for a couple of them.

You can get updates on Anastasia's polishes on her site, Facebook or twitter  :)

Also, what do you guys think of the lighting? I think I need to tweak it a bit to keep the macro images sharp but other than that I'm pretty happy.

Thanks for reading! Have a beautiful day!

The polishes in this post were provided to me in exchange for an honest review. For more information, see my disclosure tab above.

  1. I think your pictures in artificial light look great! Have you tried Poshé top coat? I got tired of Seche Vite doing funny things with my manis, so I changed for Poshé and it works great. I don' t experience any bubbling/shrinkage etc. Same time of drying and it's b3f!

  2. Kirsten, have you thought of making a light box? That is what I am planning on doing so that I can take my pics indoors and still get good shots. There are some great tutorials on how to make one online and they are relatively cheap to make as well.

  3. I love Butterfly Kisses.. it's so CUTE! Seche also doesn't play nice with me, I gave up on it entirely.

  4. My favorite is "Bad Moon Rising." I love me some CCR! Also, I think your photos are nice! They show a lot of detail! I have terrible, amateur-hour photos on my blog.

  6. The first one's awesome, indeed. But I think you've mixed it with a bright background polish. Try a dark one since your glitters are already bright!
For sure it'll be more gorgeous to look at.
