Penguins in Santa hats

Hello lacquered lovelies! Happy Wednesday :) I know I should be wearing pink but I'm just not feeling it lately :( Instead, I'm going into Christmas overdrive. Usually I'm not especially festive but this year I'm spazzing about all things Christmas-related, probably because I can't go home for Christmas so I'm trying to make the best of it!

Also, before I get into my most - I just wanted to say thank you for the sweet congratulations on my one year blogiversary :) It means a lot to me and I'm so glad to have met you all!

So I have my first real Christmas mani to show you guys today. My love Jen and I decided that we were going to challenge ourselves to do holiday manicures and settled on three as an appropriate number. She's already done two and I'm just posting my first! I decided on penguins with Santa hats because I love penguins and adding a Santa hat to anything makes it festive... right? I started out with two coats of Etude House Sherbet Blue as my base, then started making my penguins with a dotting tool, which is why they're a bit lumpy. I like things that are kind of messed up though, so I don't mind! I used Wet n Wild Black Creme, Wet n Wild White On, Konad special yellow and a-england Perceveal (which is pretty much one of the most perfect reds ever) for this. It took me ages but I was being lazy and doing other things so I doubt it would normally take that long! Then I added some topcoat, because all the layers of polish make this a bit uneven.

They look a bit crazy but they're my crazy penguins so I like them haha. I have no idea what happened with the penguin's eyes on my pinky. They're uber googly and I think I was all stoked on how relatively normal their eyes looked until then and then I jinxed myself. His eyes are wider than his body hahaha!

Also, it's 2:30 AM as I write this and I just finished taking the pictures, so that's why they're under a lamp. I'm building a lightbox soon, hopefully, so I can finally stop being at the mercy of the sun, but until I do...

Tehe - I wanted to try out the lovely Deborah's signature hand pose. It looks better with her adorable nails, I think!

So, there you have it. One of my first proper attempts at nail art that I've shown on here LOL. What do you guys think? Be merciful!

Have you done any Christmas designs yet? What do you think you'll be wearing Christmas day? :)

Thanks for reading! Have a beautiful day!

Jelly sandwich with Tangled in my Web

Hello lacquered lovelies! It's Wednesday! How is your week going so far? I wrote my last midterm last night... and then got an email from one of my professors about our first assignment. NOT HAPPY. I hate that class and hate the professor so I definitely won't be staying an extra two years to finish my minor here. Anyway!

Today I have a manicure that I did without even thinking... and then remembered that it was going to be a bish to photograph. Sure enough, over 200 pictures later, it was. Only my cell phone seemed to be able to handle the neon-ness...

So. I used two coats of a nameless neon pink jelly, then added Wet n' Wild Tangled in My Web, then another coat of the jelly. This was no topcoat.

It went weirdly coral on my camera but my phone picture is closer to the true colour.

That's it! Silly camera fail. What are you wearing today? :) On your nails, perverts! ;)

A pink Wednesday franken :)

Hello lacquered lovelies! Yay it's Wednesday :) I'm actually sort of feeling pink polish lately. It fits in with this weird neutral kick I've been finding myself on every couple of days. I KNOW. But it fits today because yayyyy homage to one of the most quotable films ever.

Quick post for today, just a franken I've been meaning to do for ages and never got around to it until now. I really wanted the Lippmann party set when it came out but I just couldn't justify it to myself when really, all I needed from the set was Happy Birthday and then I could just franken the rest for myself... I had a weird obsession with Candyshop so I decided to just try to make something similar. The base to Candyshop is more of a baby pink than the hot pink that I ended up choosing but lighter pinks give me corpse hands and not in a good way, so... I used about half a bottle of clear polish, just over a quarter of Essence Circus Confetti and a bit of Wet n' Wild Party of Five Glitters, then added some Wet n' Wild How I Met Your Magenta. I liked the subtle golden shimmer in it that it added to my jelly base. I wish more jellies had shimmer. I always franken my jellies with a shimmer haha.

It was fairly sheer... I ended up using four coats, but that problem would have been solved with more of HIMYM. I just wanted it to stay all squishy looking. I used topcoat in the pictures but only because I needed it to dry fast. And yes, the bottle is defying gravity again. I don't know why I'm not taking pictures my usual way lately, it's like I'm losing my mind LOL. Now I look at my pictures and think they look dreadful unless I rotate them because I've gotten so used to it.

I wore this to my (horrible and three freaking hours long) night lecture and got three compliments on it in the fifteen minutes before class started. The guy breathing like a pervert next to me felt the need to loudly proclaim that my nails looked like candy. And then he continued to breathe like a pervert and I tried to suppress the urge to punch him in the face. Ahh social delicacy.

That's it for today! What do you lovelies think? Are you wearing pink today? Have you frankened anything recently? I love frankening jellies with glitter because it's the easiest thing ever and is basically idiot-proof... perfect for me!

Thanks for reading! Have a beautiful day!

Deceptive polish name

Hello lacquered lovelies! Happy Wednesday! You know what that means! There are so so many pink lovelies now, it's so cool to see :)

Today I have a polish I've shown you a lot before but I still love it - Essie Mod Square. I added an accent nail just to switch it up, Wet 'n' Wild Hannah Pinktana. Which isn't actually pink, guys. I'd say it's more of a lilac. I still liked the overall effect, even though these polish names kinda make me want to shoot myself in the face. Three coats of Mod Square and two coats of Hannah Pinktana. I almost abbreviated that to save my sanity but I couldn't do it. That terrible name can't have the same abbreviation as my favourite series of all time.

This was more holo-y but it wasn't super sunny when I was taking these. :(

That's it from me today, short and sweet. I'm off to go continue working on my Harry Potter manicure! So many steps, I really hope it turns out!

What do you guys think? Would you call Hannah Pinktana "pink"? Have you gotten any new Wet n Wild polishes recently? They've really stepped up their game, it's awesome! Are you wearing pink today?

Thanks for reading! Have a beautiful day!

These polish names kill me/goodbye for a week!

Hello lacquered lovelies! This is my last post before I leave for my cruise tomorrow... I'm going to miss writing to you guys! I have a couple of things scheduled for while I'm away but Nicole will be taking care of everything because she's awesome. <3 She'll be looking after Facebook, the blog, twitter, comment moderation, emails, all of that. I believe she also has a couple of post ideas so look forward to that! I'm excited and very grateful that she's taking it on for me - I hope she's prepared for it LOL.

I'm scheduling this post for while I'm at work and can I just say that it's nearly 1 AM and I'm talking to Jen, Jeanette and Abby on twitter and howling with laughter. Jen and I have been tweeting up a storm for hours now, I even got thrown in twitter jail for it. I love that girl, she's mental. And I talked with the lovely Kellie earlier and found out that you can't get ketchup chips in the States! Or the Smarties that we eat here, that have a hard candy outside and chocolate inside? Or Hawkins Cheezies! IT'S A SAD WORLD. Seriously though, I don't know how I'm going to cope without my daily dose of my girls while I'm away. I haven't had this much fun on twitter in ages!

Anyway, today I have a bit of layering. I got Wet 'n' Wild Blue Wants to be a Millionaire (the name kills me please never again) but I knew just from looking at it that it was going to be sheer. So I decided to layer it over something. I didn't have a similar blue in my stash that I could think of, so I just went with China Glaze Sea Spray, because it's gorgeous. I did two coats of Sea Spray and two of BWTBAM. I had swatched this on four fingers but then I smashed my index finger against my desk, so it's back to three fingers for this one. I think it works better for this bottle shape anyway!

The last one is with flash, because there wasn't a ton of sunlight that day. This was quite sparkly and pretty, I may recreate it and wear it as a full mani soon!

Ahhh that's it from me today. I'll be writing to you but it won't really be the same, I usually write all my posts the night before but this will be so far in advance. I'm going to miss you guys! I'll be completely offline for the week, most likely (not even my phone) but our cruise gets back in at some ungodly early hour in the morning, so I'll definitely pop back onto twitter when I'm done. And I'll take pictures!

Would you guys be interested in seeing a post with pictures from my cruise? We're going to Alaska. Midnight sun, I think we're going on a whale watching thing (living here, I can see them going on the ferry to the mainland but still cool, right?) because I got outvoted badly LOL. I wanted to tour an old gold mine in Juneau... yeah, I'm a geek. So what?

Have a beautiful weekend, guys. Keep safe and be careful this weekend, okay? I know that people get a bit nuts on long weekends but I want all of my lovelies to be safe and sound. <3 This is really me saying bye, since the other posts all end like I normally do. If you need anything while I'm gone you can email, if Nicole can she'll definitely help you out! If you want my help, I'll do my best when I get home. I leave Sunday afternoon and I'll be back in Canada the following Sunday morning. I'll be back with a bang, promise! I've got an idea for what I want my return mani to be!

Thanks for reading! Have a beautiful day!

A Blue Iguana experiment

Hello lacquered lovelies! Happy Tuesday! Today I have a quick post for you because I'm a bit frustrated with these pictures. But let me explain.

Remember when the China Glaze Island Escape collection came out? And we were all disappointed that the purple flash that Blue Iguana seemed to have in the bottle didn't translate to the nail? Well, I noticed when I was swatching it that it was quite visible after one coat, so I was thinking of different ways to try it with only one coat - that didn't involve it being uber sheer, because we all know how I feel about that. So I layered Blue Iguana over a coat of Wet 'n' Wild Black Creme (everyone says this is a one coater but it's a VERY careful one coater for me haha, I suck).

Here comes the frustration - the flash was VERY visible in person. Four hundred pictures later (I kid you not - I just looked and it was 412) and I still don't think I managed to capture it. So... trust me? Just try Blue Iguana over black. I swear you'll see it!

Haha the curves of my nails look like sad faces... saddened by my failure. :(

Can you see the purple? I was sitting on the couch in the living room, where everything is neutral, and wearing all black (because that's how I roll) so I know that it wasn't just catching purple off my clothes or something... bah! I wish I could blame my camera but I think it's a combination of the two. I wish I was better at photography. :(

ANYWAY, just trust me... it's there.

What do you guys think? Have you tried layering Blue Iguana so it keeps that purple flash?

Thanks for reading! Have a beautiful day!

It's like the universe.

Hello lacquered lovelies! I'm back and with nail pictures yay! I apologize for anyone who was scarred by the Dat Ash meme yesterday. I think it's hilarious but I've been told that my sense of humour is terrifying/creepy/inappropriate/OMFG SO MUCH IS WRONG WITH YOU for years now, so there you go. I'm just saying that it's hilarious. That's all.

Anyway, today I have a mani from last week. I loved this so hard. Removal made me love it slightly less (dear god it took forever and it HURT) but that's my fault, I probably should have foiled it. Ah well, live and learn!

I started out with a coat of Wet 'n' Wild Black Creme. After it dried, I used a coat of China Glaze Blue Iguana. Something exciting happens there, but I'll leave that for another post, because a lot of pictures will be necessary. Then I added two coats of Revlon Galaxy, which is an awesome blue glitter with black glitter thrown in, along with silver hex glitter. Thennnn I added two coats of China Glaze Matte Magic. Yeah. Just imagine the removal. Sooo worth it though. I got so many compliments on this mani!

I even twitpicd this and it looked good. And yes, I am holding a bus pass.

So that's it for me today! Starting off with a bang, I hope! I hadn't mattified any of my manis for a while so I decided to give it a go and I'm really happy with how it turned out. :) In somewhat related news, those Revlon glitters that Galaxy was a part of? With Star and... agh, there was a purple and a silver and a red too, right? I don't need the silver (psst... it's pretty much the same as China Glaze Techno) but I really wanted the red and I got it in a blogsale this weekend, along with a longtime OPI lemming and two ChG Kaleidoscopes :) Happy day! And have you seen the Revlon fall polishes? MORE GLITTERS? I need them!

What do you lovelies think? Have you been rocking any dark nail colours lately? I know it's summer but I've been feeling contrary lately and I'm gravitating towards my dark polishes again LOL. Maybe some of the jellies I've been frankening will snap me out of it? Do you have any of these Revlon glitters? I know they look boring in the bottle but I'm in love, seriously. The black glitter in Galaxy is awesome and really adds the look I was going for, I think!

Thanks for reading! Have a beautiful day!

The name sucks but this is pretty

Hello lacquered lovelies! Almost Friday, whoo! Today's post will be short and sweet - it's past 1 AM as I write this and I need to be up early in the morning lol!

I have another orange for you today. I got this because it looked to be very similar to Zoya Tanzy - which I don't have to compare (I don't buy Zoya often). From looking at swatches, I'd say Tanzy is more opaque, but that's about it. This is Wet 'n' Wild 9.0.2.1.Orange (the name slays me). These are supposed to be fast dry but I found that this took a while to dry on me... ah well. Also, the brush in this particular bottle was totally jacked - it was really stiff and unbending, so I made a mess. I apologize for the messy clean up!

Sunlight

Shade

So, there's VNL after three coats but it doesn't bug me, really. I love the colour so much! This is a perfect summer colour to me. I really want to wear it again haha.

That's it from me today! Short and sweet, for a change!

What do you lovelies think? Did you think you were going to escape without an orange post this week? Have you tried any polishes from this "fast dry" line? Did they actually dry quickly for you?

Thanks for reading! Have a beautiful day!

Cake batter

Hello lacquered lovelies! Happy Tuesday? I'm stoked because I have tomorrow and Thursday off but I know that Friday seems a long way off right now lol. American friends, you did have yesterday off, right? I hope you enjoyed your long weekend!

Today I have another glitter and jelly sandwich. I KNOW GUYS. I know. I know you're probably really sick of seeing them, but I started this blog to show swatches and what I've been wearing lately. I haven't been able to swatch because of my work schedule (my days off only seem to bring terrible weather, so expect some lamp pictures for a bit... *sigh*), so it's back to "I wore this" posts for now. And I've been wearing a lot of sandwiches lately. I've had so many ideas for them and I love trying them. I'm sorry if you're sick of seeing them. Maybe skip this entry then lol!

So yeah. Another glitter and jelly sandwich. Let me say something first, though - I used OPI Bubble Bath in this, right? A polish that I hated so much the first few times I used it that I wanted to chuck it against a wall lol. Those sheer finishes are not an option for me (I know it's gross to some people but I do have stained nails, so...) so I need more opacity than what they're probably supposed to give. So I did four coats of it, right? Waited about ten minutes between coats, topped it off with my trusty China Glaze Fast Forward, and an hour later it still hadn't dried. So I spent (basically) almost two hours on it. Thankfully I was watching Saw, so the time passed quickly but still. I was mad.

I figured that was just going into my "hey, maybe I'll have a blog sale at some point" pile, or that I'd give it to someone who wanted a bit of class to their nails or something. Also known as "not me". Then I decided that I would give it one more shot, and use glitter and try layering it. And I'm so glad I did because I looooooooooove this mani. But enough talking, more pictures, right?

I started out with two coats of OPI Bubble Bath. I waited about twenty minutes for it to dry, just to be safe, and added one coat of Wet 'n' Wild Party of Five Glitters, then two more coats of Bubble Bath. Topped it all off with China Glaze FF.

That's the most visible my nail line has been in a while lol. My nails are stained but the free edge is still really white. More coats would've fixed that but whatever, I didn't mind much. This totally reminds me of confetti cake! I would put a picture in but... if you don't know what I'm talking about, google at your own risk. I'm starving and didn't want to look through the image results to find one that looked like my nails lol. I was thinking about Glitter in the Air, because Kellie had just posted it (and now I need it because of her.. *shakes fist*), but I was also thinking about an awesome mani Liz of Liquid Jelly had done for a Pink Wednesday post. I loved her mani so much! I couldn't do the accent nail, though, so I just borrowed the batter part. :)

Lots of writing today, I'm sorry! What do you lovelies think? Are you sick of glitter and jelly sandwiches? Have you done any good ones lately? Any ideas for any? I wish nail polish companies would make ONE polish like this and save us all the work lol! What are you rocking today?

Thanks for reading! Have a beautiful day!

Haul!

Hello lacquered lovelies! Today's post is a bit different from what I usually do, but I hope you enjoy it anyway. Please do not panic - nail polish is still involved. It's just not everything! And this is suuuuuper pic heavy so I apologize in advance! I'm also actually showing my face, which I feel all spastic about but I fail at taking mirror pictures and wanted to show my hair length when I talked about one product, so...

I went shopping with my new roomie, Melissa, on... Monday, I think? I don't remember. Yes, it must have been because we went to bingo and... oh well, you don't care about how old I am and how I have trouble remembering things!

Anyway, I got a mixture of things - a lot of bath products, nail polish and some CDs - I rarely buy CDs anymore, though I have quite a few. I generally swap albums online with people - I'll upload something from my computer that I have on CD that I know they want and they do the same for me. It's still downloading, of course, but I feel slightly better knowing that at least one of us did buy the album.

This is everything all laid out. :)

Let's take a closer look! Starting with the polishes, perhaps?

Wet 'n' Wild Black Creme, Saved by the Blue, Sally Hansen Hard as Nails blah blah Purple Pizzazz and Wet 'n' Wild 9.0.2.1.Orange. The Wet 'n' Wild names kill me but the colours are pretty!

From the Retro Diva collection (2009). You all know how I feel about orange!

From the Holiday in Toyland collection (2008).

From the Holiday Wishes collection (2009). I got two bottles because the adorable miss Madita said it was one of her biggest lemmings. I can't wait to send it to her! I rarely get the chance to help in lemming slaying (boo Canada) so I'm super excited!

Biggest surprise of the day - I found this and the bottles of Shim-merry Chic at a hole in the wall salon!

I also have a slight addiction to yummy smelling bath products. From the Body Shop, I got:

I got the tea tree oil skin clearing lotion, fuzzy peach shower gel, ice blue shampoo (which smells all menthol-y), green apple shower gel and the tea tree oil foaming cleanser. I looooooove the tea tree oil stuff, it works really well for my skin and I love the smell. I also like that it's not full of chemicals, sometimes my skin needs a break! The Body Shop is having an awesome deal right now too - buy two, get one free, or buy five and get two free. I love stuff like that! There was also a groupon for the Body Shop, $40 (or $45 if used by the end of May) in products for $20! I went to go find the link but sadly, it appears that it has ended. :(

We also went to HMV, where I got two CDs...

Beady Eye - Different Gear, Still Speeding. To cut it short: Oasis is my favourite band. I was devastated when they broke up. I need all things Oasis-related, Beady Eye is basically Oasis without Noel so I got it. Though Noel was my favourite part of Oasis...

Another one of my obsessions is music. And along with that obsession (and hundreds of CDs) comes a bit of OCD. I have a... well, a list problem. I obsessively make lists all the time. I do it without even realizing it. Have you ever read High Fidelity by Nick Hornby? The main character, Rob, makes lists throughout the book, especially when it comes to music. Music is where my main list-making obsession comes in. All of this is a long way to say that I always have a list of bands that I want to get around listening to, and the Black Keys are on that list. I've got the first two albums on my computer but I wanted to try Brothers out too, and I quite like it so far!

And fiiiiiiinally, possibly my favourite part of the day, was our visit to Lush.

I got Retread because the jungle conditioner bar does NOTHING for me. I have pretty long hair and I moisturize it a lot, especially because it's wavy. I twitpicd this already, but here's what I mean:

Haha I look dumb. I would like to say that I don't make faces like that a lot, but it would be a lie. My hair is layered too, so the longest bits aren't usually visible, usually only half my hair is over my shoulder at any given moment, like this:

Oh yeah, and I look twelve. This was also a minimal make up day but still. I feel all anxious about doing this LOL... be merciful! I don't know how beauty bloggers do it... anyway! I just wanted to show what I mean when I say my hair is long and needs all the help it can get. Jen and I were talking on twitter about how much jungle sucks (I'm sorry but it's true - it also smells like clumps of grass and dirt. Eww) and the awesome and hilarious Emily suggested that we try Retread, a suggestion which the lovely Jeanette echoed. I haven't tried it enough to say for sure but it definitely makes my hair feel better!

Smells. So. Good.

One of my favourite perfumes ever - I hate floral scents with a passion, I like lighter scents like vanilla or fresh fruity scents like apple.

That is the butterball bath bomb. Mmm.

And soap! I was going to photoshop the prices out but I suck at photoshop, so I'm sorry! This one, Sexy Peel, smells very citrus-y and fresh. Looove.

This is my biggest soap addiction. It smells amazing. Seriously. I don't even want to attempt to describe it. Just get it. It's lovely.

I got this because it smells a bit minty and I thought it would help me wake up in the morning. It's the brightest blue ever!

And the Herbalism cleanser, which I decided to try after a recommendation from an employee at the Lush downtown. Mel and I went to another one in a mall (for old people), which I was stoked about because I find the employees at the one downtown totally overbearing and a bit terrifying.

WHEW this was supposed to be a quick post but it's so long! Thanks for staying with me if you made it this far, and I hope you enjoyed this! Thankfully, I don't do this often (my wallet is also glad) so I probably won't do this again unless it's something you enjoyed - let me know in the comments!

Again, I'm sorry for the pic spam! I hope you all have a fabulous Saturday and I hope to talk to some of you in the comments! And tell me, what's your favourite bath product? Or your favourite Lush/Body Shop product? I love hearing suggestions!
